Course Description:
We will bend and fit brass wire cloth to a custom cap shape ready for beading and decoration (done at the students leisure).
Students need to bring: tin snips (not wire cutters), glue gun and glue, garden gloves, scissors Fee includes brass wire cloth, all other supplies and two color pictures.

Course Description:
Making period reproductions of 16th-16th century beaded necklaces. Will make a necklace in class and have instructions for making 2 more necklace styles on your own.
Students Bring: Needle nose jewelry pliers if you have them, but will also have supplies for the class.

Learn to dag anything. 15th Century houppeland dagging. History and technique for creating period and turn style dags.

Course Description:
Learn the basic 4 in 1 weave, then a circular 4 in 1 wave, and finally the idiot's delight chain.
Students bring: diagonal wire cutters, pliers, needle nose pliers, plus 5-6 metal coat hangers or wire of your choice.

Course Description:
Introduction to the tools and techniques used in carving bone by hand. Each step of the process will be explained. From conception to completed piece. This is a hands-on class and each student will leave with a piece of their own creation. All materials provided.

Course Description:
This class should be taken before "Early Period Embroidery". We will learn 8 stitches that were used throughout the SCA time period. Stitches are: stem, split, chain, satin, brick, holbein, couching and laid and couched (as in Bayeaux Tapestry). Time permitting, a brief discussion of how the stitches were used during the different centuries.
Students are encouraged to bring their own hoops.

Course Description:
We will examine pictures of extant embroideries from per-14th Century, with some lecture about them. We will re-create some of the techniques used in these embroideries, as much as time permits. Class handout will contain detailed information about the embroideries.
Students must already know basic stitches (stem, split, satin, couching, etc.) or they must have taken the 8 period stitches class first.

Course Description:
Teaching the beautiful calligraphy style of Carolingian Miniscule. Not only will the class give the students an opportunity to learn a calligraphy style, but the handout will be a handy guide for further exploration of this writing style. I will also show layout of a scroll, and a few different applications for calligraphied projects.

Course Description:
The basics of bardic with a little advanced stuff thrown in for good measure.
Students: Bring your imagination and willingness to learn. Oh, and perhaps a poem of about 10 lines or so, a story or song, period or original, that they can work on.

Course Description:
This class is for those that have an interest in Autocrating an SCA event for the first time, or for those that would like to learn more on Autocrating an event. Some of the subjects covered will be: filling out an Event Bid Form, establishing a budget, establishing the Event Team, site location.
Students: Bring note taking equipment!
16. Lady Sorcha Inghen Cu' Mara Ghillie Making BSD 5 Adults 2 hours $9, covers leather, laces, handout, thread etc.
Course Description:
Ghillies are a traditional Gaelic shoe that are easy to make. You do not need to have any leather working experience for this class.
Students: If you bring your own leather, the cost of the class will be greatly reduced.

In this class you will learn the beginning english countrydance steps.

Course Description:
In this class you will learn the intermediate english country (Black Nag, Picking on Sticks, Beggar Boy, Boate Man, Old Mole and others) that take the basic english country dance steps and give them an exciting twist.

Learn several basic stitches and where you would use each type.
STudents: Should bring needle, thread and cloth to practice on.

Class will show how to make basic 4 pair round and flat braid cords and will discuss how to create patterns with cording and the effects of more thread pairs. Students will be given a portable Marudai and enough floss to create a sword lanyard. Most students will be halfway finised with the lanyard by the end of class

Course Description:
Learn about all the small details that go into the construction of a tent. Why you really do need to have that odd piece of canvas there, how to keep the rain outside of the tent, and other issues in design and construction.

Learn about the history of the coif and make one in class. Typically called an "arming cap" by the fighters. All materials will be provided to make a coif.

Round table discussion on alternatives to the current method of selecting the crown.

Course Description:
Will be showing slides on Saudi Women's Thobes/Kaftans from her travels abroad. Wonderful opportunity to see authentic clothing for use in creating an Estrella War entry.

Course Description:
Learn a way in which to assemble lined jerkins and doublets so that they fit well and look right every time. Find out the tricks that lead to sucess, and learn why those tricks work. The handout includes the entire list of steps. We'll talk about fabrics, styles, and assembly details.
Students: Bring note taking material.

Course Description:
Learn the basics of SCA middle eastern Drumming, including how to hold and play the drum, some basic rhythms, and basics of the drum circle.
STudents: Bring a drum and a folding chair so that we can form a circle.

31. Lord Marceau de Valcourt How to Fight with a Case of Swords BTM 12 18 1 hr NA
Course Description:
Learn some successful techniques and tricks for using two swords in SCA rapier fighting. Become aware of the differences between using a sword and using any other off-hand weapon or parrying device. See some moves that wouldn't seem to work, but actually work very effectively. The class will be a mix of lecture, discussion and application.

If they wish to participate in the actual fencing, they'll need to bring their weapons, armor, and SCA membership card and fighter authorization card (or equivalent).

32. Lady Cecily de la Warde Sprang- How to Make Your own String Bag ? 10 ? 2 hrs $2
Course Description:
Learn this most ancient of crafts to make braided textile, examples will be shown of hats, bags and scarf made of sprang, and students will learn the skills necessary to make a simple string bag.
Materials will be provided for 10, others may only audit class.

Course Description:
Learn to make cord with a lucet. Beginners will be shown how to make the basic cord. If you have mastered the basic cord, come to learn how to make multi-color variations.

Learn about knitting in period, what types were used and when and then learn how to cast on, knit and bind off. Knitting needles and yarn will be provided to the first 10 students. Others may only audit.

Course Description:
A class that explores the nature of woven fabric and how it pertains to portraiture and construction of clothing. It will be rather technical in it's styling and quite informative. We will discuss several difficult garments in the SCA and some theories on different ways to make them. There will also be a brief discussion of Textile Thermal Dynamics.

Course Description:
A discussion and lecture on the fit of period garments and how we can better approximate the silhouette of a period ensemble. Portraits will be viewed.

A demonstration of forge welding and blade smithing. Students need to bring water and ice as this is the only outdoor class we will be having. :)
43. Vivian of Steadfast Porcelain Jewelry using polymer clay BA? NA NA 1 hr $1
Course Description:
Hands On class where you will be shown how to use polymer clay to mimic porcelain jewelry items, including beads and roses.
NOTE: Due to lack of ovens, you will need to take your finish item home and bake it to hardness there. A small container to protect it from damage on the trip home might be a good idea.
