  1. What does DNS do for us on the internet? Why are domain names more portable than IP addresses?

  2. Give an example of a web client, an ftp client and an email client. (Must be three different program names, may need to check out shareware.com for help)

  3. Using lecture notes (and Hobbes internet time line on the main course page) list 5 big events in the history of the internet, make sure you include a couple that relate to the web, and the year they happened.

  4. The number of internet hosts increased by how many millions from 1995 (when businesses first started taking the internet seriously) to what we now have in 2009, only 14 years later? (book can help)

  5. Coaxial cable, fiber optic cable and wireless are three of the ways devices are connected into networks, and to the internet. For each, explain the advantages and disadvantages.

  6. When looking for an Internet Service provider, cable company, etc, what are 5 things you need to know (which might be in their AUP) and/or want to have them provide, or need to have them provide (ie for email to work)?
